Wigs 'no longer just for those with hair loss'
Published: 13th of January 2012
People with hair loss may be pleased to hear they could be keeping up with fashion if they are disguising their balding with wigs. The Guardian noted wearing prosthetic tresses is becoming trendy, particularly with celebrities like Lady Gaga donning them to achieve a certain look.
Founder of Harrods' Wig Boudoir Vicki Ullah told the newspaper she has seen a rise in the number of people choosing to wear false hair, while creative manager at Charles Worthington Marc Tinder noted young women are increasingly becoming interested in the products.
"Waiting for your hair to grow again after cutting takes time," he stated. "Why commit to a new style or colour when you can change your look from day to day?"
Meanwhile, wig retailer Hothair's head of buying Vikki Brown noted coloured prosthetics are particularly popular as an alternative to dyeing natural locks.
As a result of this fashion, people with thinning hair may be able to get their hands on more trendy wigs than in the past, especially as celebrity stylist Trevor Sorbie has founded charity My New Hair, through which he offers professionally cut products.
