Hair loss sufferers to benefit from acupuncture?
Published: 11th of January 2012
Stress is known to contribute to hair loss, so those who feel their thinning is related to being under strain may want to try techniques designed to reduce their anxiety. One of the options for people who need to relax more often is acupuncture and Tamzin Freeman, an expert in this treatment, explained how it works.
"It acts on areas of the brain known to reduce stress, deactivating the 'analytical' brain, which is responsible for over-thinking and anxiety," she said, citing research.
The specialist, who also practises Emotional Freedom Techniques and kinesiology, claimed the treatment is particularly effective for depression, but is also a "powerful chill-out" for stress.
Mr Freeman noted acupuncture is often very successful in addiction clinics, adding that it helps regulate the hormonal and neurotransmitter levels.
A paper published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine stated Georgetown University Medical Center researchers found the traditional Chinese treatment lowered the level of a protein associated with chronic stress when they tested it on rats.
