Published: 13th of January 2012
Female hair loss sufferers may be inspired by the story of a teenager from the US who has written about her experience with the problem.Olivia Rusk has had alopecia since she was two years old and, at the age of 14, has now self-published a book about the issue.
It is called Your Average Teenager Who Happens To Be Bald and she plans to release it in February.
The teenager explained to Indystar.com how she decided to look at her alopecia in a positive light.
"Something that could have traumatised me has actually given me so many opportunities that I would have never had," she explained.
Indeed, the teenager was given a job by Radio Disney after it heard her speak articulartly about living with hair loss and she has also worked as a model.
The schoolgirl explained she made the decision to stop wearing wigs when she was eight years old because she wanted people "to know the real me".
Irish model Amber Jean Rowan, 19, also has female hair loss and told Irish news provider the Herald she hoped her appearance on RTE's The Model Agent would be helpful to fellow alopecia sufferers.
