Hair loss girl declares condition "made me stronger"
Published: 29th of September 2010
Hair loss can have a major impact on a person's self-esteem and confidence - but one sufferer has declared it made her stronger.Speaking to the Ashland City Times, Laura Staggs - a young cheerleader from Tennessee - said her alopecia is triggered by stress.
The first occurrence of the autoimmune disease, which can cause patchy baldness all over the body, was noticed when the girl was in fifth grade - the US equivalent of year six - and Laura suffered a relapse in May of 2009 after she was in a car accident with her brother Shane.
However, despite having to cope with the condition from such a young age, the student - now in tenth grade (year 11) - said she does not see her hair loss as a disadvantage, claiming it has never stopped her from doing anything.
"I think the biggest gift it's given me is confidence. It's made me stronger," Laura explained.
Others suffering with the same condition might like to try changing their diet, as a piece published on Lon's Article Directory recently suggested avoiding processed foods and caffeine to improve the condition of tresses.
