Overstyling hair loss victims to answer casting call?
Published: 28th of September 2010
Overstyling and poor handling of tresses has been known to cause hair loss sometimes known as traction alopecia - and the BBC is looking for people who have suffered such a condition. In order to produce a new show on BBC3, Optomen Television has put a casting appeal out for those who have struggled with issues thought to have been caused by a beautician or hairdresser.
"You might have suffered hair loss or breakage, burns, infections or skin damage," the casting directive states, noting that this is for a series about the dangers of unregulated and ill-educated salon workers.
Many people might experience hair loss not as a result of work done by a professional but simply by dint of too much strain put on their strands by the styles they choose.
One person said to have fallen victim to this is supermodel Naomi Campbell, who was pictured out and about earlier this summer with an apparent bald patch on her head.
Experts blamed the catwalk star's weaves for causing the damage.
