Female hair loss 'induced by pregnancy'
Published: 27th of September 2010
Pregnancy can have an enormous effect on a woman's body - not least, causing female hair loss.According to a piece on Helium, gestation often works as the catalyst for thinning tresses, which happens at a slow and steady rate and may at first go unnoticed.
However, should it get to the point where the woman becomes self-conscious about the situation, it may be worth visiting a doctor.
The publication went on to note that this type of hair loss usually slows and ends completely a few months after giving birth as hormone levels settle down to pre-pregnancy rates.
"This is all very normal and you should not let this add stress to your life. It is not something to be embarrassed about," the site reassured its readers.
Hormonal changes in general - such as menstruation or in a more extreme case, menopause - have been well documented as having an effect on the hair follicles.
