Chimp becomes zoo favourite thanks to hair loss
Published: 27th of September 2010
People struggling to cope with thinning tresses might be relieved to hear they are not alone - it seems that hair loss is affecting the animal kingdom as well.According to the Sun, a resident chimp at Twycross Zoo, Leicestershire, has been afflicted with alopecia, leaving his entire body completely bald.
Jambo - a 28-year-old father of three - seems content with his lot in life and has fast become a fans' favourite with his unique new look.
However, he has aroused some concern in some of the zoo's visitors.
Sarah George, a nearby resident, said her daughter Sophie, six years old, is concerned about his wellbeing.
"Sophie thinks we should get him a coat because he looks cold," she admitted.
Alopecia can strike any living creature with hair follicles and has been known to affect dogs, cats and small rodents as well as humans and primates.
Even birds can fall foul of the condition.
