Published: 27th of September 2010
Kids as young as seven have discussed their cancer and hair loss experiences as part of a new study commissioned by The National Cancer Survivorship Initiative and CLIC Sargent. The survey was designed to assess the impact the disease has on all aspects of a youngster's life and it was found that participants believed visible side effects such as thinning hair set them apart from their peers.
One respondent, Louise, aged ten, who has leukaemia noted that she looks different because she has lost her locks, saying: "Sometimes I feel left out from my school friends and I sometimes lack confidence with groups of my friends."
Those asked stated they would like more advice regarding the maintenance of healthy lifestyles both during and after therapy.
Meanwhile, cancer sufferer Bernie Nolan recently told the Daily Mail that she decided to get rid of all her hair after her locks started to thin and, despite this, she still feels attractive.
