Biotin deficiency 'can lead to hair loss'
Published: 20th of September 2010
People suffering from hair loss may like to check the levels of biotin in their bodies.According to a piece on Helium, a deficiency of this B vitamin - known as B7 or vitamin H - can lead to this problem.
Despite the fact that biotin occurs naturally in abundant quantities in the human digestive system, certain diseases may kill off its production.
What's more, long-term antibiotic use can stifle the output of biotin - and although this should be reversed when the prescription is finished, symptoms of the depletion may be alarming.
These can include hair loss, skin issues and dryness, depression and muscle pain.
The article went on to note that although taking an unnecessary surplus of biotin is not harmful, it is unclear as to whether it has any positive effects on locks either.
However, it did observe that many shampoos and conditioners are enriched by vitamin H as it is said to boost hair follicles and the scalp.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported by the website that good nutrition is essential for maintaining healthy tresses.
