Published: 17th of September 2010
One of the main causes of hair loss could be being missed by many suffering from thinning tresses - so it could be worth getting tested for diabetes.According to a piece on Helium, this illness means patients exhibit patchy baldness as one of their earliest symptoms.
This may be caused by to the fact that diabetes adversely affects the circulation system, leading to hair follicles ceasing to receive adequate nutritional support and, in some cases, die off completely.
Checking blood sugar levels is important, as this is another early indicator of trouble on the horizon.
Should these be elevated, "don't wait until you have a full blown case of this disease. Early intervention is the key to slowing down the progression, which will also help you to keep your hair," the article advised.
Another condition which can lead to hair loss is alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes baldness over the entire body.
