Published: 31st of August 2010
A beauty queen has revealed that her brush with hair loss has inspired her to do good across America.Mrs Florida Kellie Lightbourn, who also hosts Consumer News on the ABC Action Station, told the provider that she is aiming to capture the Mrs America crown as well.
A twist on the usual Miss America campaign, this drive celebrates working and stay-at-home married women throughout the country.
And Ms Lightbourn said that she is determined to use her position to help out with good causes, such as the hair loss reality she was faced with over a decade ago when she was Miss Virginia, meeting a youngster suffering from the problem.
"I actually shaved my head for a little girl with alopecia and it was one of those moments that you'll never forget," she explained.
What's more, she isn't the only beauty queen bringing attention to this issue - the current Miss Delaware Kayla Martell also struggles with alopecia and is using her status to raise awareness of the condition.
