Hair loss business can get off the ground 'thanks to retail grant'
Published: 24th of August 2010
A woman who has won an entrepreneurship competition to set up her own hair loss business is celebrating.Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, Miracle Wanzo - who scooped first place at the San Leandro's Bayfair Center's RetailStar contest to gain a year's free rent of a unit at the mall - said her "heart was pounding" when she heard the news.
The championship awards not only a complimentary space at its facility, it also gives the victor a free "built-out" on the shop and $25,000 (£16,244) start-up cash.
Now Ms Wanzo is free to realise her dream of a high-end wig shop.
Zara Wigs will focus on a clientele suffering with hair loss, whether this is through cancer, alopecia - such as British TV presenter Gail Porter - or another cause.
Despite having run the business online for four years, the professional felt it was time to set up a physical presence in the market as well.
"There's a limit to how far people will go buying certain types of products unseen," she explained.
