Hair loss survivor speaks out about her wig experience
Published: 23rd of August 2010
A writer suffering from female hair loss has spoken out about her decision to wear a wig.In a piece for the Vallejo Times Herald, Rachel Raskin-Zrihen, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and as such has experienced her tresses thinning and falling out, explained that being prepared for the change meant she decided to experiment with hairpieces early on.
This came in the form of a trial run to the supermarket and then the main event, which was a social occasion expected to last all evening.
The image of a cancer-stricken woman wearing hairpieces to various appointments has been shown several times in the media before, not least in the case of Sex and the City, when leading character Samantha Jones lost her locks and wore a series of increasingly fun extensions.
Ms Raskin-Zrihen admitted she had several fears about wearing the wig out to the affair, not least whether it would slip or fall off.
However, it turned out she was worrying unnecessarily.
"None of my neurotic fears have come to pass so far and, judging from most reactions, I guess I should have started wearing wigs and turbans years ago," she explained.
