Stress 'first suspect in hair loss'
Published: 20th of August 2010
Stress is the "number one" cause of female hair loss, if comments from one expert are anything to go by.Dr Carrie Jones, writing for EmpowHer, noted that anxiety and pressure of modern day life can affect every inch of a woman's body - including her head.
If this is the case, follicles get stuck in "telogen effluvium, where your hair lays dormant for a few months, falls out for a few months then re-grows a few months after that", she explained.
As such, this can cause patchy baldness for almost a year.
However, ladies experiencing thinning locks should go to their doctor and ask for their iron levels to be checked, as a deficiency of this may be the cause.
Furthermore, thyroid issues that have lain undetected may begin to manifest themselves in straggly tresses.
A piece on helium.com previously indicated that various vitamin deficiencies can have an impact on hair as well.
