Vitamin deficiencies 'lead to hair loss'
Published: 19th of August 2010
Diet and lifestyle may have an escalatory effect on hair loss - so it could be a good idea to take extra vitamins.According to a piece written for helium.com, a deficiency in vitamin A - which can be found in liver, eggs and broccoli, amongst other foods - can cause a dearth of sebum production in the scalp.
In turn, this may affect the level of dryness on the head, which can contribute to brittle and easily-breakable locks. Conversely, however, too high a dose may exacerbate hair loss.
Vitamin B3 is also vital to maintain healthy tresses, as a lack of this in a diet can lead to thinning hair.
Meanwhile, vitamins C and E are both proven to affect the condition of strands, while a deficiency of the former is known to result in patchy baldness.
However, it is very important that those suffering from hair loss do not immediately rush out and purchase supplements or increase their intake too much - a doctor's advice should be sought to ensure these products do not clash with any other medication or dietary needs.
