Youngsters' hair loss 'does not stop them enjoying life'
Published: 13th of August 2010
A pair of youngsters who suffer from hair loss have spoken out about their condition.Sisters Emily and Faye - aged 11 and nine, respectively - have both struggled with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes every strand on the body to fall out, since they were tiny.
However, this could be part of the reason as to why they cope so well with the disease - Faye said she does not mind having alopecia.
"I'm used to people coming up to me - I'm not really bothered what they say," she added, noting that her bald head does not stop her from doing "anything".
Meanwhile, her older sister observed that while she is sometimes asked about her condition, she is happy to explain about the syndrome in an effort to educate others.
Thousands of children around the UK have experienced hair loss due to different factors, which in turn has inspired the creation of charities such as the Little Princess Trust.
This group works to help kids cope with the ailment and has support from celebrity guests such as Gail Porter, who has fought her own well-publicised battle with alopecia.
