Male hair loss detectable through test?
Published: 11th of August 2010
It may be possible for people in India to begin finding out their likelihood of suffering from hair loss.According to the Deccan Chronicle, more genetic centres in the area of Secunderabad are now offering DNA tests to determine how big a person's risk of losing their tresses is.
And these are apparently quite accurate, an expert has said.
Pointing out that hereditary baldness is a large cause of hair loss in males, Dr Shamma Shetye - the molecular biologist at the Lister Metropolis laboratory - said that as thinning locks are too often detected after many strands have already fallen out, the investigation could be worth it.
"By knowing much in advance, preventive steps can be taken in good time," the expert concluded.
It is said that sons' chances of hair loss come from their mother's side of the family rather than their father's, so it could be worth checking the barnets of the men on this side.
