Protein and iron may help hair loss, doctor says
Published: 2nd of August 2010
An expert has given some tips to those who are worried they may be suffering from hair loss.Writing for the News of the World, Dr Hilary Jones explained that different issues with our locks are often down to deficiencies in diets or lifestyle.
For example, he observed that thinning tresses is often a sign of a lack of iron in your nutritional regime.
To counteract this, Dr Hilary suggested asking a doctor to check levels of this supplement in your blood, while increasing your intake of protein - eating foods such as lentils, fish, meat and eggs - might help, as this is the substance that locks are mainly comprised of.
However, if the problem seems to be more localised, Dr Hilary suggested it could be something else.
"Losing clumps of hair in patches indicates alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that tends to get better on its own within months," he pointed out.
Last week, the publication revealed that Gail Porter, a television personality with alopecia, has been nominated for its Bighearted Entertainer of the Year award thanks to her work with different charities, such as the Little Princess Foundation which helps children with hair loss.
