Published: 26th of July 2010
A star celebrated for her attitude to dealing with female hair loss has been nominated for an award. The News of the World has announced that Gail Porter, who revealed her struggle with alopecia five years ago, is in the running for its Bighearted Entertainer of the Year prize.
Porter is an ambassador and patron of several charities, including the Little Princess Trust, a foundation which supports children suffering from hair loss and helps create wigs for those in need.
She is also a patron of The Children's Trust, which helps kids who have experienced brain injuries.
Many fans of the television presenter were shocked when she was first photographed with a bald head but the star has steadily gained confidence in revealing her hairlessness to the world - although she recently appeared on a chat show with fuzzy tufts growing back.
Now she will be joining a host of celebrities at the publication's fundraiser, which is to take place in September at Glasgow's Grand Central Hotel.
Porter told the newspaper that she was "thrilled" to have been nominated by its readers.
