Girl, 5, says she loves being bald

Published: 22nd of July 2010
Girl, 5, says she loves being bald A five-year-old girl struggling with female hair loss has amazed her family with her bravery.

Speaking to the Commercial-News of Danville, Illinois, Lee Kempen said that her daughter Lauryn began losing tufts of hair when she turned three years old.

Six months later, she was completely bald.

Ms Kempen admitted that she and her husband Chris had "a really hard time in the beginning" but after attending the National Alopecia Conference, have learned a lot more about the condition.

However, Lauryn has had no such qualms, telling the newspaper, "I like my bald head".

She has chosen not to wear a wig, a decision that her parents support.

"We totally let her deal with it. I have told her to just tell her friends," Mr Kempen said.

Meanwhile, a piece in the Limerick Post recently advised alopecia sufferers that the condition could affect the strength and appearance of their nails.
