Hair loss caused by the weather?
Published: 21st of July 2010
Hair loss might be a product of the weather, an expert has suggested.Agrees cosmetologist Jamuna Pai told DNA India that humidity can place a lot of pressure on roots, which may lead to baldness.
The doctor explained that muggy ambience increases the chances of fungal infections of the scalp, as well as priming the area for lice infestations and heavy dandruff.
Rain can also have a torrid effect on tresses, so it is vital to use a suitable shampoo to wash such substances out of the hair, Dr Pai continued.
However, heavy styling products should be avoided.
"When they come in contact with water they tend to clump and lose their purpose. Also, they effectively become dust magnets," she added.
Meanwhile, Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has admitted that overstyling - especially using extensions in her locks - caused her to experience hair loss.
In an interview with the Mirror, she noted that she had immediately removed the additions after spotting patchy baldness along her roots.
