Centre helps children deal with hair loss
Published: 20th of July 2010
The creator of an organisation which specialises in helping children deal with hair loss has commended the local community for its help.Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Maggie Varney - who founded Wigs 4 Kids - said that one of the most moving parts of the business was seeing the way in which the youngsters could interact with one another.
Through the aid of the public, Ms Varney was able to move her company from the back room of her salon to another location, adding a Wellness Centre in which the affected kids can play and talk about their experiences.
"The community just wraps their arms around these children," she explained. "Even our dollies don't have hair; even our bears have wigs."
One child using the service is ten-year-old Madison Parrish, who suffers from alopecia.
Her mother Staci said that her daughter's greatest wish is to be a "normal" kid - something Ms Varney hopes the facility provides.
Meanwhile, Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has admitted to suffering female hair loss of her own.
