Soap star admits to female hair loss

Published: 19th of July 2010
Soap star admits to female hair loss Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe has spoken out about her experience of female hair loss.

The Mirror reported that the soap star - who recently admitted to having had liposuction to drop a dress size - realised she had bald spots on her scalp following some heavy styling.

It occurred after Metcalfe, who plays scheming Mercedes McQueen in the popular television drama, had hair extensions fitted.

"I noticed my hair was falling out, leaving small patches where the extensions had been attached to the scalp," she told the publication, noting that while at first she tried to have the artificial pieces re-fitted, she eventually decided to have them taken out altogether.

Meanwhile, this sort of female hair loss - known as traction - is also thought to have affected supermodel Naomi Campbell, who has been photographed with a patchy hairless scalp after years of wearing weaves over her own naturally curly locks.
