Miriam Stoppard: How to prevent hair loss from extensions
Published: 16th of July 2010
Hair loss treatment advice has been provided by Dr Miriam Stoppard for people getting extensions put in.Writing for the Daily Mirror, the expert revealed some warning signs that extensions could be causing hair loss.
Flakes or red, possibly painful bumps on the scalp are two symptoms, while hair may also break off.
In such cases, extensions should be removed by a professional and hair should not be styled any more than is necessary. However, individuals should also see a dermatologist.
Dr Stoppard noted that the glue in extensions can be harmful to hair and to hair follicles.
Wearers of extensions should also watch the fronts of their heads and temples, where the hair is at its least strong and most likely to fall out.
Meanwhile, wig maker Lynda Moyo recently told Manchester Confidential that women who lose their hair may feel as if they are less feminine.
She also highlighted the condition of trichotillomania, an obsessive compulsive disorder in which sufferers pull out their own hair.
