Expert: Female hair loss can result in feeling less feminine
Published: 15th of July 2010
An expert has noted that one of the first things that often goes along with female hair loss is the woman's self-esteem.Speaking to Manchester Confidential, Lynda Moyo, who specialises in creating wigs, explained that when it comes to bald heads gained through alopecia or cancer, ladies can often experience a lack of confidence and even a feeling of failed femininity.
"There are women who have all this lovely hair and then in their late teens [or] early twenties, it starts to go and it marks you for life," she said, pointing out that some women have to change their entire lifestyle in order to try to cover their heads up.
Ms Moyo went on to say that too little attention has been paid to the disorder known as trichotillomania, in which sufferers have the compulsion to pull their hair out their heads.
This may be a minor tic, leaving to a slightly bigger parting, or it could be something so severe as to leave the entire head bald.
One sufferer told the Daily Mail recently that the urge to indulge is "suffocating".
