Inexperienced stylists 'causing hair loss'

Rough handling by stylists might be partly to blame for female hair loss, according to one expert.Les Marshall, registrar for the Australian Hairdressers Registration Board, said that it is vital to do research before committing to seeing a professional for treatments, news source WAToday reported.
He noted that there are currently some 12 cases waiting to go before magistrates concerning ill health from inadequate care taken during hairdressing, with side effects from the treatment ranging from headaches to traction alopecia.
This is particularly the case when it comes to getting hair extensions fitted.
"Before committing to having hair extensions, consumers should undertake a thorough consultation process with a number of experienced hairdressers," Mr Marshall said.
The news may not come as a surprise to some alopecia sufferers who have viewed recent photographs of supermodel Naomi Campbell in which she appears to have bald patches caused by a badly fitting weave.
