Women feel hair loss 'differently to men'
Published: 13th of July 2010
A writer has pointed out that women suffering from female hair loss might feel the physical effects more than men.In response to a recent New York Times article detailing a man's journey through the beginning of alopecia to accepting his bald head, Catherine Manos wrote a plea for more research to be done into the causes of the condition.
She complained about the piece's focus on a male point of view, stating that while both genders feel the emotional toll of losing their hair, women often gave a different perspective on it.
"While men may go forth as Mr Clean, most women feel it necessary to wear wigs and deal with other cosmetic issues - [for example] eyebrows [and] lashes," Ms Manos noted.
Furthermore, such desires can be expensive and while insurance sometimes provides wigs for cancer patients, alopecia sufferers often receive no such care, she continued.
Meanwhile, Women24 has run an article stating that women feel too much of the social pressure placed on having the perfect 'do - something which can exacerbate and even lead to the stress bald patches.
