Blackbird suffers hair loss
Published: 9th of July 2010
A blackbird has been pictured with major hair loss on his head - perhaps proving that it's not just humans who can shed their locks through stress. The male feathered creature has a full plumage elsewhere on his body but his head is entirely bald.
David Savage of Lancashire had noticed the bird coming to feed regularly in his garden and snapped the picture to see if the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) would be able to shed any light on his condition.
And, according to a spokesperson, it could be stress which has caused the creature to develop a winged form of alopecia.
Furthermore, it could be caused by the anxiety felt by the birds during the breeding season - so, it is plausible that if this feathered friend finds a mate, he will regrow his plumage.
"The head is the most difficult to preen because they obviously can’t reach it with their beak," the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, agony aunt Ellie Tescher recently advised those suffering with hair loss that they should not allow themselves to get too wrapped up in the problem, according to the Edmonton Journal.
