Mother of female hair loss teen: It was devastating
Published: 8th of July 2010
The mother of a teenager who lost her locks due to female hair loss has spoken out about the devastating effect that unpredictable alopecia can have.According to ABC News, Makenzee Meaux started developing small patchy areas of baldness on her blonde head when she was just nine years old, baffling doctors.
However, none could imagine the ferocity of the condition, which left the youngster struggling to adapt to being totally bald within a year.
"We were both so devastated. We just prayed it would grow back but it never really did," mother Jennifer said.
Although Makenzee, now 14 years old, today wears a wig to try and hide the effects of alopecia, both she and her mother are hoping new treatments will begin to stimulate regrowth.
Meanwhile, another woman who may well understand what the teen is going through is British TV presenter Gail Porter, who shocked fans when she admitted to going bald.
However, Porter was recently seen on TV with tufty tresses coming through, sparking hope amongst sufferers.
