Hair loss 'can shake confidence - but set an example'

Guys suffering from male hair loss may feel a certain pang in their pride in their looks - but they need to be reminded that they are setting an example.This is according to Ellie Tescher, an advice columnist writing for the Edmonton Journal.
She responded to a letter sent in by a depressing balding man, who said that his self-esteem has plummeted since his locks began to thin but he is worried what effect such a lack of confidence will have on his young daughters.
Reassuring him that there is no shame in seeking the best possible treatments for hair loss out there, Ms Tescher went on to point out that children can be prone to picking up on signals which indicate a parent is not comfortable in his or herself.
However, the most important part is to allow the kids to feel good about themselves, rather than worrying how one's own self-esteem can affect them, she continued.
"What mostly affects their body image is how both parents handle issues of the girls' weight and appearance," the expert concluded.
Meanwhile, choosing some fashionable headgear to protect the scalp in the sun might help boost feelings of inadequacy stemming from hair loss.
