Kirsty Gallacher: I was horrified when my hair started falling out
Published: 5th of July 2010
TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher has spoken out about the misery she felt after experiencing female hair loss following a difficult pregnancy.Talking to the Daily Mail, the National Lottery frontwoman explained after giving birth to her son Oscar in 2006, she felt perfectly fine at first.
However, after she stopped breastfeeding the child, she began to feel unwell and while she had been prepared for some hair loss due to pregnancy hormones, she was bewildered when it began happening in excessive amounts.
"Totally out of the blue my hair started falling out in clumps. I first noticed it on my pillow one morning and was horrified - not to mention frightened," Gallacher said.
This, combined with other symptoms such as aching joints, a drop in weight and fatigue, convinced the star to seek professional help and she was eventually diagnosed as having hyperthyroidism.
Years later, she is now feeling much better thanks to radiation therapy, although admits that she will never forget what happened to her.
Meanwhile, 60-year-old Sue Holderness recently spoke to the same publication about her battle with alopecia.
