Hair loss sufferers 'may need to see a doctor'
Published: 2nd of July 2010
Some sufferers of hair loss may benefit from seeing a doctor, it has been suggested.Writing on Rundtownnews.co.uk, Dr Colin Evans noted that there can be underlying medical problems that lead to thinning tresses.
His comments were made in response to a question posed by a reader.
The individual, who is 52 years old, said her hair has suddenly begun falling out and she is finding more strands in her hairbrush and plughole.
Dr Evans pointed out that some cases of hair loss can be caused by over-active or under-active thyroids.
Meanwhile, diabetes and lupus can have the same effect, he stated.
The expert added: "Hormonal problems can also be a culprit. Imbalances of male or female sex hormones, androgens and oestrogens, can cause hair to fall out."
It is also known that consuming insufficient levels of protein can increase people's risk of suffering from a thinning of their locks.
