Sue Holderness talks of battle with hair loss
Published: 29th of June 2010
Actress Sue Holderness, who is perhaps best-known for her role as Marlene in Only Fools And Horses, has discussed her battle with hair loss.Talking to the Daily Mail, the celebrity noted she has suffered from alopecia since having children in her 30s.
At times, she revealed, her tresses would come out in handfuls.
She commented: "Initially, I thought it was maybe part of being an exhausted new mum and didn't do anything about it. But as I got older it got worse."
When she turned 40, she woke up to discover a "carpet of hair" on her pillow.
While it is normal for people to lose up to around 100 strands a day, more than this is unusual and may require a medical opinion, experts advise.
Holderness, who is an advocate of Viviscal, described the discovery as "very frightening".
She added that after taking the product for three months, she noticed a "real difference".
Another celebrity who has suffered from alopecia is Gail Porter, although her tresses are now returning.
