Over-styling 'can cause hair loss'
Published: 28th of June 2010
Women who over-style their tresses may end up suffering from hair loss. This is according to an article in the Daily Mail, which suggested that four-in-ten UK women will experience a thinning of their tresses during their lives.
The publication noted that the desire for people to be fashionable with their locks and use products and dyes is contributing to the trend.
Industry practitioner Hayley Welling said that she has seen a rise in the number of women wanting to add length to their locks.
She added: "Since the Cheryl Cole big hair phenomenon we've had a huge increase in young girls wanting hair extensions but many are unaware of the long-term effects on their hair."
It is known that applying too much pressure to the roots of tresses can result in traction alopecia, with a number of celebrities reportedly experiencing such problems over recent years due to their hairstyles.
