Beauty queen suffers from hair loss

Published: 23rd of June 2010
Beauty queen suffers from hair loss A beauty queen from across the Atlantic has revealed she suffers from hair loss.

Kayla Martell, who is 21 years old and holds the title of Miss Delaware, has had alopecia for a decade, the News Journal reports.

She stated that she does not want to be defined by her condition and known as "that girl" without any hair.

However, she is comfortable with her image, she stated.

Ms Martell remarked: "That's who I am. When I go to the grocery store, I don't wear my wig."

She added that looking as she does on stage does not come easily but rather requires a lot of work.

Recently, she was in New Orleans accepting an Outstanding Young Americans Award for her work in AmeriCorps and 4-H.

She also travels speaking about hair loss problems.

According to the NHS, around one in 100 people suffer from alopecia areata, with teenagers and young adults most likely to be affected.
