Could recession be causing increase in stress-related hair loss?
Published: 21st of June 2010
The economic problems in the UK may have led to a rise in stress-related hair loss.It is known that excessive amounts of pressure and worry can cause people's tresses to thin.
According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, since the start of the recession there has been an increase in the number of employees who work throughout the day without having a break.
It found that one in four workers regularly go through whole days without stopping to rest, while 36 per cent often work through their lunches.
Responding to the statistics, Ben Willmott, senior public policy advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said: "It's these sorts of warnings that employers should be looking out for that might show that people aren't coping."
He added that some staff members are also working excessive hours and are keeping in touch with the office over the weekends and evenings.
As well as stress, an unhealthy diet can lead to hair loss.
