High mineral levels 'can lead to hair loss'
Published: 18th of June 2010
High levels of certain minerals can result in hair loss, one expert has claimed.Dubai-based hair specialist Maria Dowling suggested that when water has large amounts of magnesium, calcium, nitrate, potassium and sodium in it, it can be damaging to locks, Time Out Dubai reports.
Writing in the publication, Nyree Barrett noted that her friend has been suffering from a thinning of her tresses.
The woman revealed she has a bald patch which she keeps concealed under her ponytail.
Meanwhile, heat can also have a negative impact on hair, Ms Dowling added, as it means people are likely to wash their tresses on a daily basis and the shampoo can strip it of its natural oils.
Another risk factor for hair loss is a bad diet that is deficient in nutrients such as protein.
Meanwhile, in the case of some individuals, excessive amounts of stress can result in locks falling out.
