Published: 16th of June 2010
A medical condition that has the potential to make sufferers experience hair loss is becoming more common. This is according to an Expressindia.com article, which suggested that hypothyroidism is rising in prevalence in some parts of the world.
Symptoms of the condition differ depending on the age of the person in question, among other factors.
For example, while a newborn baby could exhibit low feeding, teenagers may show signs of thinning tresses.
According to senior endocrinologist at Ivy Hospital Dr Gagan Priya, the medical complaint can lead to very noticeable changes in the body.
She added that if left untreated, it can lead to serious difficulties.
The medical expert commented: "Hypothyroidism may cause anaemia, low body temperature and heart failure."
Located in the neck, the thyroid gland produces hormones that are released into the bloodstream to control growth and metabolism.
If it does not produce sufficient thyroxin, the body slows down.
