Women and men's hair loss patterns 'differ'

The patterns of hair loss suffered by men and women tend to differ, it has been noted.Writing on LiveScience.com, Fred Cicetti said that while male sufferers tend to get baldness around the hairline and crown, which can result in a total loss of locks, females rarely experience this.
Rather, they are likely to see a thinning of their tresses more generally.
He made his comments in response to a reader's question.
She described herself as an "old lady" and noted that she has been losing some of her hair.
The individual asked if there is anything she could do to slow the process down.
Mr Cicetti advised her to avoid tight hairstyles that pull on the follicles and suggested that too much brushing or combing can break strands.
Also, shampooing too often is bad for the health of tresses, he claimed.
Another risk factor for balding is engaging in fad diets as they may result in people consuming insufficient levels of nutrients.
