Bad diet 'can increase hair loss risk'
Published: 8th of June 2010
The risk of thinning hair and hair loss may be exacerbated by a poor diet, one specialist has suggested.Speaking to City AM, Dr Talib Nigma, a naturopathic doctor at the Bowskill Clinic, explained there are a number of factors that could potentially lead to unhealthy locks.
She said a lack of iron, magnesium and zinc, which can be found in greens and oily fish, can have a serious negative effect.
"A lot of us don't consume good fats which are necessary for the health of the hair and to balance hormones," she stated.
Furthermore, Dr Nigma suggested high stress levels could also increase the risk of hair loss, as overworked adrenal glands could soak up the vitamins C and B5 essential for healthy tresses.
Her remarks follow a report by the Times of India, which stated emotional stress may lead to alopecia or premature greying.
It added various eating disorders, too, may result in hair loss.
