Hair loss is "scary", woman says
Published: 8th of June 2010
A woman who experienced hair loss has said she was alarmed when her tresses began to fall out.Last August, 28-year-old Caroline Murray noticed a small bald spot on her head and went to her GP to seek advice, Herald.ie reports.
She was told she was suffering from alopecia and was sent for blood tests.
The samples indicated there was no underlying health problem so she was advised the shedding of her locks was stress related.
According to Ms Murray, it was "scary" to see strands of her hair coming out in such large quantities.
She added: "When I'd wake up in the morning, I'd see it all over the pillow. If I was in the shower and washing my hair, it would just fall out in my hands. I'd lost it all by the end of October."
According to the NHS, alopecia areata is most common among teenagers and young adults and around one in 100 people in the UK have the condition.
