Women under stress 'can suffer hair loss'
Published: 3rd of June 2010
Stress can result in women's tresses being shed, a news source has noted.According to the Great Falls Tribune, people can lose up to 50 per cent of their locks after an unusually stressful event.
Commenting on the issue, dermatologist Dr Rebecca Euwer said childbirth, surgery and deaths in the family are three possible causes of hair loss.
She remarked: "When someone comes in and says they're losing their hair, you ask, 'Well, what happened about three months ago?'"
The expert added that while men can experience balding due to stress, it is more often ladies who report such problems.
Dr Euwer pointed out that it is normal for around 100 hairs to fall out each day, but concerns should arise when more strands are found in such places as pillows and shower drains.
Older females are more at risk of experiencing a thinning of their tresses, she went on to state.
Her comments were made as Gail Porter, who has suffered from hair loss she blamed on stress, was pictured showing her newly grown locks.
