Published: 26th of May 2010
Hair loss can be a traumatic experience for sufferers, particularly women. This is according to a report on WCBS-TV New York, which claimed that around 80 per cent of males and 50 per cent of females will experience the problem at some point in their lifetimes.
Commenting on her experiences, Miskelina Aluotto - who has the condition - said she was afraid.
She remarked: "Open the towel and all hair, all hair, all about, I was so scared."
Meanwhile, Katya Kupava revealed that she too has seen a thinning of her tresses, noting that she has a small bald spot which could get worse.
She stated: "It was shedding profusely. I mean it was just kind of coming out."
Another woman to have lost her hair is TV presenter Gail Porter, who developed alopecia five years ago.
However, in a recent development, the Scot has begun to see her locks return.
