"Many things" can cause baldness

Published: 25th of May 2010
Many things can cause baldness There are a variety of potential factors that can contribute to a person's risk of suffering from hair loss, it has been noted.

Writing in the Guardian, Dr Louisa Dillner said some individuals have an inherited propensity to shed their tresses.

In other cases, pregnancy or an illness can contribute to the problem, the expert added.

Meanwhile, alopecia areata is the cause among some sufferers, she remarked.

According to the NHS, around one in 100 people in the UK have this condition and it is more prevalent among teenagers and young adults than other age groups.

Dr Dillner went on to state that sometimes people can cause their tresses to thin because they pull their hair too tight when they are styling it. This is referred to as traction alopecia.

In addition, some of those who have high blood pressure can experience a thinning of their locks, the expert suggested.
