Concerns expressed over medication hair loss risk
Published: 24th of May 2010
An individual has expressed concern that medication she is taking may cause her to suffer hair loss.A forum member on an About - News & Issues blog revealed she has ulcerative colitis and is on drugs to control the condition.
The medical complaint affects the large intestine and causes it to become inflamed.
Symptoms can range from mild to severe and it can flare up and then go into remission for months and even years.
According to the NHS, it is fairly uncommon and there are currently around 100,000 people in England who suffer from it.
The woman said she was diagnosed with it in December last year and since March she has noticed her tresses are thinning.
She reduced the amount of medication she was taking to control the effects of the illness in a bid to combat the falling of her locks.
However, this caused her ulcerative colitis to get worse, she noted.
