Teenager describes hair loss experiences
Published: 19th of May 2010
A teenager from the US has described how he is coping with hair loss.Mark Gervasi began shedding his tresses at the age of ten and was completely bald by 11, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
At first, he used to hope his locks would return, he noted, but now he has accepted his condition.
The youngster, who is a big baseball fan and is known for his ability to play the sport, said now he considers his lack of hair as part of him.
He added: "Hey, I lost my hair. It's not like I'm sick or dying, knock on wood. Many people have things far worse than I do."
Mark went on to note that he is "cool with kidding around now" and does not take jokes about his appearance seriously.
He is by no means alone in suffering from baldness in his youth, with alopecia areata being more common among teenagers and young adults than among older people.
