Hair loss in children 'can be serious'
Published: 19th of May 2010
While it may be less common than in adults, the problem of hair loss among children can be serious, it has been noted.According to an article on Natural News.com, it may be necessary to visit a doctor if the tresses of a youngster begin falling out.
In many cases, the locks will return in time, the news source noted. However, this is not always the case.
It went on to point out that hair loss among children is often associated with cancer, but this is not the cause in all cases.
Alopecia is one medical condition that results in tresses being shed, it noted, with traction alopecia particularly common among girls.
It said: "Yanking a child's delicate hair into tight ponytails and braids can cause hair to fall out, especially along the front and sides of the head."
A celebrity to have suffered from a different form of alopecia as a youngster is Hairy Biker Dave Myers, who experienced a number of personal stresses in his childhood.
