Hair loss "can be devastating"
Published: 13th of May 2010
The impact of hair loss on sufferers is often difficult to cope with, according to one writer.Recording her thoughts in the Times of India, Zeenia Baria claimed such problems "can be devastating".
She added: "It can lead to body dysmorphic disorder, which leads to destruction of self-image, prestige and confidence."
Ms Baria went on to suggest that winter can be a particularly damaging period for locks.
Indeed, Dr Apoorva Shah noted that this time of year is more drying and "therefore more abusive" than other points of the calendar.
Tips for those keen to look after their hair include not blow drying it too frequently and avoiding leaving locks wet for long periods of time.
Meanwhile, it is also known that consuming a diet that contains sufficient levels of protein is important as a means of maintaining the health of tresses and minimising the risk that they will fall out.
