Actress plays hair loss sufferer

Published: 13th of May 2010
Actress plays hair loss sufferer An actress has shown her dedication to the trade by having her eyebrows shaved off in order to play the role of someone suffering from hair loss.

Speaking to PopcornBiz, Malin Akerman noted that she was expected to undergo the change for her new film HappyThankYouMorePlease, NBC Connecticut reports.

In the production, she plays the part of a woman suffering from alopecia.

Speaking about the physical changes she needed to undergo, Akerman remarked: "I couldn't fake the eyebrows. The part deserved that dedication."

She stated that the decision to lose this hair was "exciting and nerve wracking".

The celebrity added: "The makeup artist turned on the shaver and the buzz started and I was like 'Oh my God'."

She did not have to go all the way and shave her head, however, as she was given a bald cap and her character wore head scarves.

One alopecia sufferer who did not try to conceal her baldness was TV and radio personality Gail Porter, who suffered from alopecia for five years.
