Stress 'can exacerbate hair loss'
Published: 6th of May 2010
While hair loss is often caused by genetic factors, it can also be made worse by stress, it has been noted.Commenting on the issue, health psychology professor Ted Robles said worries can lead to tresses being shed, the Daily Bruin reports.
However, it is not known how much of an impact such psychological concerns have on the health of locks.
The expert also pointed out that people tend to lose an average of 100 to 150 strands of hair per day under normal circumstances.
Professor Robles added: "The mechanism for which stress might influence hair loss is plausible and exists."
Indeed, regardless of the impact it has on hair fall, lessening stress is a worthy goal for individual's health in general, he concluded.
Those keen to minimise their risk of suffering a loss of tresses may benefit from making sure they get sufficient levels of protein as this can improve the strength of locks.
